This is a story about assumptions.
And how bad assumptions can make your theory means something it could never prove.
This is also a story about fudging data.
And the consequences that causes down the line.
And, this is the story of a bad experiment.
The Michelson-Morley experiment.
Which proved nothing.
Had the minimum number of measurements to be called an exerpiment.
And disproved only one model of the aether, if the readings and the assumptions were true, which they were not.
But, was used as a disproof of the Luminiferous Aether
Which was the largest change to physics ever made since Newton.
Bad assumptions
Michelson-Morley assumed that the Luminiferous Aether was a static, fixed field. And thus, the Earth, which is orbiting the sun (another assumption) should be moving through this field at so many miles per hour (another assumption) and so, a beam of light (still another assumption) would move more slowly in the direction of travel, then in a direction perpendicular to it. (another assumption)
Look at all of these assumptions. None of them proven. None of them disproven. Just assumed, still, to this day.
With these same assumptions, you could say that the Earth doesn't move. Because if the Earth was moving around the sun at 10s of thousands of miles per hour, shouldn't the winds be so fierce that it scrubs the earth clean? And since the winds do not move at thousands of miles per hour, the Earth must be stationary!
And everything that is going through your mind now, about wind, or the lack there of, applies to the assumptions of the Michelson-Morley experiment.
The bad experiment
The experiment was done at one location, on one day, at one time, at one temperature.
AND! the minimum number of measurements were made for this to be called an experiment.
Would you accept this lack of data as conclusive evidence to disprove an entire area of science?
Well, we did.
What is the worst is that Michelson-Morley got a reading, but since it was not as high as their assumptions planned for, that there apparatus must be off, and so the reading must really be zero.
So, they expected 10, got 1, and called it zero.
What kind of experiment is this?
Another physicist took the same kind of contraption and did the experiment at different altitudes. And, he found that he got different readings at different elevations. Now, this is VERY important to the conclusion made from this experiment. He took his findings and showed Einstein. Einstein dismissed it as a difference in temperature.
And so, one of the most important pieces of data ever about our world and the universe, was discarded.
(And Einstein's Theory of Relativity stands tall because of that omission)
The conclusions
Since they expected 10, got 1, and called it 0, their conclusion that this experiment didn't measure any Aether, and so "The Luminiferous Aether doesn't exist".
This is the basis of our world view today.
Even though many "pseudo-scientists" are find all kinds of evidence that the Aether exists (they are pseudo because they are not paid for, white lab-coat wearing, university laboratory ensconced, ivory tower hierophant approved, scientists.) Not because their experiments are bad or wrong.
There are soooo many theories that utilize the field that is the Aether, that explain what is happening in our world very precisely and easily. However, the ivory tower hierophants have stated, "IT DOESN'T EXIST, so your experiments and theories are all wrong"
We seriously need to throw out the Michelson-Morley experiment, and start over.
"But, Builder," you say, "That would mean throwing out all the science that we did in the last 100 years!"
yep. In one go.
However, 100 years of going in the wrong direction does not mean anything. One year of going in the correct direction is far more meaningful. So, we really need to adjust
This is the story of the granddaddy of all bad experiments.
Unfortunately, it is not the only one. Our Modern Materialistic Science is replete with them.
Experiments/Theories/Conclusions that have been DECIDED!! And anyone who questions any of them is labelled "psuedo-".
Even though the theories have so many holes in them, that you could assume that science is, indeed, swiss cheese.
It is all so bothersome. To do real science, you have tell every knew person how the theories that they were taught is swiss cheese. And, even after providing mountains of data, most people continue believing what the college professor taught them. So, not only is the pseudo- alternative-physicist's time wasted, they never get many people to talk to. To help expand on their ideas.
This is the University System that Rhodes created. And, it will crumble to dust, because the truth can only be hidden for so long.
