It goes much further than that.
Our current currency, even bitcoin, only works if there is enough money circulating.
Goods for sale, but no one has any dollars, then the price is irrelevant. During the great depression the made wooden nickels just because of this.
And the opposite can happen when there is nothing but dollars, and no goods to buy.
If we had "real" money, neither of these issues would happen.
