It was my Birthday the other day. I don’t normally like to make a big deal out of it because I’m a pretty private person who doesn’t like attention. I enjoy the freedom that comes with writing anonymously which is why I don’t use my real name on HIVE and am very protective of my personal information. This year my birthday was similar to last in that our household has been sick with viruses and other ailments so it was pretty low key, but it was still a bit special in its own way.
My kids like doing crafty things and they always like to make me a card for special events like Birthdays. I think it’s a very sweet and personalized way to show someone you care about them. It’s always easier to spend a few bucks to buy one from the local newsagent but that takes about 20 seconds, whereas a Home Made Birthday Card takes some effort...and some talent!
This year my wife got in on the gig and she has a bit of a twisted sense of humor and knows how much time I spend doing HIVE stuff. She is about the only person in my real world who actually knows who @buggedout is and so she decided to make a card out of my silly HIVE avatar – the crazy bug. I should probably update that thing with something cooler, especially now that I’m doing a lot of Artificial Intelligence Art...but there is something about that old Avatar which is endearing. Maybe even sentimental? It’s hard to explain because it was a very flippant and thoughtless choice for Avatar back in 2017 but I’m kind of attached to it now. Or maybe it’s attached to me?
Anyways, I think these cards are kind of cool. I’d encourage anyone with kids to get them into the habit of making cards for loved ones instead of buying them. It’ll save you some money and go some way to teaching them a bit about how to show real appreciation for others by exercising a more personalized creativity.
