Today is Fathers Day in Australia. I know that different parts of the world celebrate Fathers at different times of the year but over here, today is the day. I’m pretty grateful that we aren’t yet calling it a Birthing Parent Day because to me being a Father is special. It’s a big responsibility and you can call me a Chauvinist or a Patriarch or accuse me of Toxic Masculinity if you like, but I think it’s a noble and honourable calling for a man to take on the role of Fatherhood – especially in this modern world where things can sometimes get a bit mental...
This is not intended to be a post where I am self-glorifying, however. Most of the time I don’t feel like I’m being a very good Father, but I’m the only one my kids have so they love me anyway. I do appreciate that of course, but I wanted to just shout out to the other Dads out there in Australia and the rest of the world too that I think you guys are awesome. You’re important and probably don’t get the recognition you deserve from society at large. So I raise a glass to you all!
It’s a beautiful sunny Spring Sunday here in Australia today and it’s a great time to be in this country so I’ll be heading down to the local this afternoon with the family for a few beers. Our local has a big outdoor beer garden with a massive screen to watch the footy and a playground for the kids. It has a woodfire pizza oven and great local beers on tap all within arms reach, so what more could an Aussie Dad ask for? Wherever you are, I hope you have a good one. Cheers!
