I’ve recently started re-watching Game of Thrones. It’s been over a decade since that epic story began and I’d forgotten just how good it is. It reminds me that all the great Fantasy and Historical stories (both real and fictional) reinforce the fact that Gold and Silver represent wealth.
Even Games and other forms of entertainment use Gold as money. World of Warcraft, Age of Empires, Dungeons and Dragons...anything that isn’t specifically set in the modern era is completely absent of Fiat Currency as we know it today. It may be subtle, but there is a message there for young people with creativity and imagination. Gold and Silver are wealth.
I was thinking about some of the great scenes that involve Gold and Silver and it’s hard to pick a favorite. I was impressed by the image Smaug the Dragon sitting on top of his golden treasure hoard at a very young age, but it’s the scene from Game of Thrones that is my favorite as an adult. Khal Drogo says to the impudent Viserys “You shall have a golden crown than men shall tremble to behold” before fatally pouring molten gold over his head. The irony of the scene is pure brilliance and the imagery is unforgettable. Watch it HERE
It makes me wonder if these stories and games are one of the reasons why Gold and Silver will never fade from memory, even for the sheeple. Despite the Bankers insistence that "Gold is just a pet rock" (while they quietly buy up loads of it) there is a subtle, maybe even unconscious desire for humans throughout history to still cherish and preserve the role of precious metals.
