It’s hard to believe that it was on this day 6 years ago that I showed up on the old STEEM blockchain to start my journey here in this wacky place that we now call HIVE. At the time I was caught up in the excitement of the 2017 Crypto Bull Market and I was sure that the world was on the verge of some monumental positive change. While that hasn’t quite played out the way I fantasized, I’m still here and I’m still a believer even if my enthusiasm is a bit more tempered these days. Hey, I’m 6 years older so give me a break….
A lot has happened in the last 6 years. On HIVE, in the world at large and especially in my personal life circumstances. A milestone like this is often a good time to reflect on the journey so far but I don’t want to bore everyone with all that. If you’re really desperate for some of my nostalgic dribble then have a read of my post from 2 years ago Celebrating 4 Years on the Blockchain. Most of that is all still relevant and I stand by it, but I did have to have a laugh when I looked at the price of HIVE back then. It was about 32 cents on the 13th of July 2021….and would go on to hit a high of $2.67 less than 6 months later which was over x8 rise that year. My optimistic observation 2 years ago that "...we are just as likely to be on the cusp of a moonshot." was right on the money. It’s just a pity that the moonshot didn’t hold….
Instead of looking back though, today I am trying to look forward. This year I think we’re in the midst of a Consolidation Phase and I don’t see a moonshot for HIVE in the next 6 months, but I do see blue skies ahead on a longer horizon. A lot of the old faces are still here and they’ve become rusted on stalwarts like me. The witnesses seem more battle hardened and mature and there is a really solid foundation of development here on HIVE – not just with regards to the core blockchain and it’s development fund, but all the Decentralised Applications, Games, Projects and Tools that have been chugging away taking their baby steps in the background. Some of them have been building for years now. Some might have scars, or warts, but they’re alive and making progress when a lot of other blockchains and projects have withered and died over the previous Crypto Winters. Maybe I am seeing the Glass Half Full, but I find this all really positive for HIVE looking forward.
For me personally, I am feeling like I am flush with ideas and if anything I’m a bit uncertain about where to start with most of them. I’ve got some of those scars and warts too, but I am working on something which I hope to get off the ground in the next 6 months. I do sincerely believe that the Next Crypto Bull Market is coming in the next year or two and I want to be ready to ride it with bells on, so it’s time to start paddlin’.
