I joined Facebook so long ago I don’t even remember doing it. Originally I saw it as a way to keep in touch with friends who I didn’t get to catch up with as life got busy and lots of people I knew were getting on there. I guess this is how all Social Media kind of started out decades ago but it’s been a downhill slide ever since.
The thing has evolved (or devolved) over the years to the point now where I am a member of a few community pages and have a few businesses I support and like to keep track of, but the updates from friends are pretty few and far between. A while back I started getting swamped with Advertisements which have increasingly become targeted and now I am getting bombarded with “Suggested for You” stuff which – to be fair – is often not far off the mark. Sometimes I catch myself killing time by trawling through my Facebook Feed....it’s not good behavior because it’s not feeding me, I’m feeding them!
I know that Facebook is collecting information on me and they know when I stop to view a video or click through to something that interests me...because they then almost immediately feed me more of it. I’ve been quite surprised lately to see some Freedom Movement and Anti-Establishment themes slipping into my feed because I had expected some of that stuff to be generally suppressed. The concern that I have is that Facebook now knows enough about me and what I like that it could be very easily weaponized against me in the not-to-distant-future.
An example of "Dangerous Misinformation" showing up in my FB feed now
Of course I don’t want to end up in some Re-Education Facility or charged with some Pre-Crime offence in the future. Maybe I’m just being a bit paranoid but I’ve wondered if I need to start trying to click through some Blue Pill content to see if I can throw the Facebook AI that is profiling me off a bit. It’s probably too late to just delete my account because information about me is already gathered. Any suggestions?
