Sometimes, the kind of things people come to say online and even what they do would make you consider the fact that maybe, people should be told who to vote for, instead of just reiterating that they should vote with their conscience. This is because our consciences are different, and everyone comes from a different place. So, while one person might make a decision from a place of suffering, another would do the same from a place of prosperity and happiness, while another will simply do so because he was paid.
Now, their answers may vary, but even though they all manage to make the same choice, their expectations will be very different. And this is the one issue of democracy. While the individual votes count, when faced against the overwhelming majority, it doesn’t usually hold a candle to it. And sadly, no matter how terrible a person has proven to be, there will still be certain people who are willing to vote for them.
This is something that should be a no-brainer, especially when there are public documents corroborating the fact that this is a terrible person. But people choose to be so easily swayed that they allow their decisions to be determined by factors that have no bearing on the economy and stability of a nation. And they’re ready to send the entire nation to hell just to get their wish.
I get it, which is why I know it’s easy to wish that we could simply tell people who to vote for. Like, just vote the good man, how hard is that? The fact that it’s even a topic of discussion shows just how concerning it is. But things like these very much happen. But then, can we really do this? It might be done for the good of the nation, but what kind of precedent are we setting? The basic tenet of democracy is that every eligible voter gets to vote for their choice candidate, and even if that candidate is a drug dealer from the pit of hell, as long as he’s a legitimate candidate, then they have the right to vote for him.
Sadly, the laws that protect the good guys also end up protecting the bad guys. If we try to tell people who to vote for, what makes us any different from the tyrants we’re trying to get rid of? Because we’re basically telling our people that their voices don’t matter, and they don’t know what is good for them. So many atrocities have been committed, all because they were supposedly done for the greater good.
So now, we shouldn’t tell people who to vote for. Do I like this? No. Because while the good guys do everything within the law, the bad guys don’t hesitate to use nefarious means to secure their votes. And in the end, the bad guys win, and the people suffer. How you get into an office matters a lot, because it will set a precedent and send a message about what you’re willing to do to keep yourself in that office.
Let’s remain on the right side of the line, please.
