filling life with noise blotting out serenity
terrified of peace doing it all
at all times, heedless of the time the place ...!
... synthetic dependancy.
to cram the world into a plastic box
and let it talk to you a little at a time
to inject life and humanity into electronic symbols
as if afraid of life in its naked glory
putting plastic clothes around reality
as if ashamed of what our god-given senses tell us.
pretty eyes, mouths, vocal chords
all supplanted by cleverly manipulated electromagnetism
to hell with your neighbour
this is the age of the plastic companion
the digital doll to decorate
the sleek technological tool
that fills the hole in your hand
and your heart.
we tell ourselves we need it
and as the world shrinks into a grey box
maybe we do.
