“Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one."
God is telling us is to keep by our word, and if a oath was sworn on, it means that the it is sent from the evil.
We as people tend to make oaths, but cannot live up to the promise you made. I tend to forget everything I promised.
Some people make oaths after telling people yes or no, some of the people even lie within the promises they make, and all because we don't trust one another. Trust is a key to life, and without it we will not have peace in places like the working environment, relationships, sport fields etc.
The partnership in sport is made out of trust, if your partner makes an oath to you to do the job he intends to do on the field, your gut feeling must believe in what he says. You as the other player must not be able to worry about anything else that isn't your job. If you ask someone to do something and they say yes or no, just believe what they are saying. Trust in the skills you and your teammate has, and trust that he will not make a mistake.
When the time comes to put a ring on the finger is the oath you are making to yourself that you will only be with this one person for the rest of your life. That one day where everyone gathers on the "wedding day" just for the couple to make an oath to each other to stay together forever.
But trust is key in any relationship, and what my mind tells me is that an oath is an oath. No matter how tough the situation gets, the couple has to try and work it out, but we as people do not want to struggle, when the time gets tough we search for the easy way out. And that leads to a divorce, even if you promised to stay in the tough times in front of the everyone and God.
What I basically want to say is make people trust you, if they ask you to do something, do it when they ask. Don't promise to do it later, because you might get busy and forget, but he will throw the words "You promised me" or something like that, and that could break the relationship between you and the person, and the trust level is broken.
Think twice before making an oath, because there are consequences that follows afterwards.
