Only 5 years removed from a Super Bowl Trophy, the Denver Broncos find themselves on the quarterback carrousel. Anyone have a quarter? Denver has a new quarterback this week with the Cleveland Browns headed to town. Brandon Allen....who?.....that’s right Brandon Allen, former Arkansas Razorback is making his first NFL start Sunday because 2-6 Joe Flacco not only stunk up the field in Denver but, he’s now been put on the injured reserve for the rest of the year. Flacco has a bulging disk in his neck that’s not expected to heal for about 6 weeks.
Allen was drafted by the LA Rams but never got any chance to play because of first round draft pick quarterbacks were ahead of him on the depth chart. Now playing College football in the SEC at Arkansas is no joke because the competition is pretty sharp but college football is miles away from being a starter in the pros.
Drew Lock has been in the IR list since pre season and is not ready to play yet but most people in Denver expect him to start playing in the next four weeks. Everyone wants to see what Lock can do but, his thumb was healing and he has not practiced in almost 10 weeks. As a Broncos fan I want to see Allen play well and even give the Broncos a chance to win but, I know the future at QB probably lies with Lock and at the very minimum he needs to play ASAP so we can see what we actually got. This is very important because it will help dictate what moves we need to make in the upcoming April NFL draft.
Flacco was simply unimpressive here in Denver while I still attest it was not all his fault. I think Flacco has most likely played his last game in the Mile High City but, the NFL is a crazy league with many twist and turns so you really never know.
Good luck this weekend Brandon Allen.....your gonna need it. Make sure your chin strap is buckled the second you get out of bed on Sunday morning because the speed of this game is gonna be like nothing you have ever seen before.
