If you’re a fan of illusionists and magicians, then this movie is definitely for you! The story revolves around two magicians engaged in a rivalry: Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) and Alfred Borden (Christian Bale) as they destroy one another ending to unfavorable results. Both seek to create the best stage illusion and outsmart each other with their tricks and gambits. The series of events that both the performers do against each other goes out of control sacrificing everything and everyone close to them.
First off, this movie is directed and co written by no other than Christopher Nolan. Yes, the same person who directed “Interstellar”, “Inception”, “Memento”, “The Dark Night” and a lot more. I’ve watched “Memento” and I must say, I was also blown away. Well, it’s an understatement to say that He is a genius when it comes to direction. Actually, I expected a lot from this movie since I knew who directed it even before I saw it and a lot of friends suggested this movie and boy, my expectations were met. It is a unique combination of brilliant direction and a powerful cast. Speaking of cast, the performances of Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, Scarlett Johansson, and David Bowie were exemplary.
The plot is full of twists and turns that would leave the audience contemplate about the whole story. It is packed with mind twisting events that would really make you question your understanding about the events in the movie. The way the story was told was just really clever. The plot, the cinematography, the cast, the acting, they’re all superb! Overall, I really enjoyed the movie and I consider it a must watch for everyone!
