My stepdaughter came to visit today and we went for a bit of a walk. It was only 3 Celsius with a frosty wind, so we were a bit chilly. Still, we managed to find some interesting things--like this big tumbleweed.
As you can see, the tumbleweed, which is actually a dead Russian thistle, is almost as big as my stepdaughter. Lucky for her, she grabbed it by the bottom, because the seeds on the top are as sharp as razers.
While walking on a trail beside the lake, we came across some nice coyote tracks. The ice has melted over the last few days, so this critter had made his way down to the shore to have a good drink of water. Fortunately for us, the Coyote wasn't around anymore. That might have been awkward.
A bit further down the trail, we found some deer droppings. It was likely the deer had the same idea as the coyote and wanted a drink of water after so many long winter months without it. Deer get most of their water from stripping the bark from trees and munching on tender green tree shoots, but they also will have a slurp of fresh water when they are able.
We couldn't take much more of this excitement so we headed home. Hopefully it continues to warm up out there.
