To get over to the zoo you can ride the ferry from downtown. Me and three of the Block One employees who served as mentors at the hackathon rode over there together. One thing that will really help you out if you go to Sydney is getting an Opal card. You can get them at 711 convenience stores and they will allow you to ride the busses, trains, and ferrys. Riding the ferry in the harbor was just as much fun as the zoo.
It passed right by the Opera House.
Once we got to the Zoo one of the first things we tried to look at was the seals.
We ended up getting pretty lucky and got to watch a Seal show. I had forgot how much seals can follow instructions. They are like well trained dogs.
There was a great view of the city from the zoo and I was trying to get a shot of the city skyline with the Aussie flag flying in the wind.
It was kind of hard to get very close to the giraffes but it was cool to see how they moved around. Sometimes when you haven’t seen these animals for a long time you forget exactly how they look when they move and their behaviors.
This bird was the one that got away. He wasn’t inside a display area or anything and I have a hard time thinking he was a random wild bird.
These are lorikeets I believe. Inside the bird display you can really get close to the birds. I was like three feet away from these.
The thing that got me about the Kangaroos was that they propelled themselves forward by putting their weight on their tail.
The emus were running around as well.
This was just me being silly. Some of the animals I couldn’t get good pictures of but overall the zoo was a cool experience.
