Hi Friends,
I know many of you are waiting on the edge of your seat for an update on my garden. If you recall, I planted a jalapeno plant, a cherry tomato plant, and a sweet basil plant in early spring.
The sweet basil plant didn’t do well and I had to get rid of it. The jalapeno plant had an early run and produced about 10 jalapeno peppers at once, but, since then, there haven’t been any new jalapenos that have grown. There does appear to be some new flowers sprouting, which eventually turn into jalapeno peppers, so I am hopeful a new batch will start soon.
The cherry tomato plant has struggled overall as well. It took a long time to start showing any signs of tomatoes forming, but a dozen finally started forming a couple of weeks ago. Well, now that I actually have a few cherry tomatoes coming up, I have had some unexpected visitors enjoy them instead of myself… caterpillars!
The caterpillars have come and have literally eaten nearly all of my cherry tomatoes. I was going to start killing them or moving them to new locations, but my kids like looking at them and watching them when they are outside. So now I face a dilemma – get rid of the caterpillars and try to get a few cherry tomatoes, or keep my kids happy by running a zoo in the backyard….
For now, I am keeping the kid’s happy and letting them watch the caterpillars!
Thanks for stopping by today,
Brian
