Dad Tip of the Day: Help your kids develop their imagination by doing imaginative play and storytelling.
My 4 year old son Jacob is obsessed with stories I tell him before bed about ‘Charlie and Sam’ a couple of brothers who go out on adventures and have a crazy little sister. I make up the stories each night and Jacob finds them hilarious, mostly because they are quite outrageous. As an example, they were all eating dinner the other night, and little sister threw her bacon in the air, hitting a fan and it shot across the room toward the front door. The bacon then somehow opened the front door and they heard Dad’s truck starting. Next thing they see is the bacon driving away in Dad’s truck. 🤷♂️
Sounds strange right, but he can’t get enough of these fake stories. It is really all about his imagination being sparked, and a good imagination is very important for kids. I found this good article online that talks about some of the benefits: https://www.scholastic.com/parents/kids-activities-and-printables/activities-for-kids/arts-and-craft-ideas/importance-pretend-play.html
Builds social and emotional skills

The other day, the kids decided to throw an imaginary birthday party for their stuffed animals – check them out:
