"The bull market feeds the bull market" — that is the age-old motto. However, when the credit market refuses to buy into the narrative and demands higher interest rates to compensate for the risk, the key players simply have to provide the necessary security themselves. With massive cash reserves in the background, credit commitments in the realm of around 500 billion USD suddenly become a manageable hurdle. With a bit of luck, the skeptical market will recognize their creditworthiness once again.
This seems to be the exact mindset of the world's largest tech corporations, as the bursting of a potential AI bubble would wipe out astronomical sums. After all, Nvidia and its peers carry immense weight in global ETFs. Guaranteeing loans for start-ups is therefore primarily an act of self-preservation and corporate protection.
The capital market, however, speaks a language of its own, and the spark that Nvidia is trying to ignite hasn't fully caught on yet. Interest rates continue their steady rise — clearly visible in the yields of 10-year and 30-year US Treasuries. Parking capital there is becoming increasingly attractive, as real yields now sit comfortably above the inflation rate.
Normally, rising interest rates are poison for gold. The fact that gold continues to climb anyway amounts to a clear vote of no confidence in the US government and its debt trajectory. All in all, the financial markets are in an exceptionally charged atmosphere, and it remains to be seen which side will buckle first.
