Wayne Rooney is on the verge of returning to England as a Player/Coach at Derby. Rooney is in ann advanced talk with the championship club and he is flying today to discuss the deal which makes it very close to be done.
Wayne Rooney is on the verge of swapping one DC (DC United) for another DC (Derby County). I don't think anyone saw this coming and to my understanding talks began a few days ago which happened very swiftly and Wayne Rooney is on his way up to the midlands to hold some final talks where he hopes to conclude a deal to become Derby County's new Player/Coach.
Even though Wayne Rooney signed a 3 year deal with DC United and 2 years on the contract left to run, there was some scoop possibly for that deal getting overturned and him coming to Derby County which is an extraordinary story.
Rooney is currently taking his coaching badges and he said it publically that he wants to go into management once his career comes to an end. This seems an ideal way of maybe combining both completing his coaching badges and also learning alongside the manager Phillip Cacu who has a very good reputation as a coach.
If you look at Wayne Rooney's record in the MLS, it shows that he still has something to offer very much so and he has impressed people over there with 23 goals in 42 MLS games. Derby thinks they are getting an absolute bargain, someone, who can compete alongside the rest of the players in the championship with the undoubted quality he has got.
Remember Rooney is England's all-time leading goal scorer for the national team but also somebody that can inspire the next generation, inspire the young players in this Derby side in the coaching role. From Rooney's perspective, he gets a better coaching experience while he prolongs his career at the age of 33 years which is a win-win in both party's view and I think the negotiations have gone as quickly as they have.
