Bigger Blocks - Faster Transaction
SegWit (Segregated Witness) - is one of the first steps in implementing the Lightning Network into the Bitcoin network, and as such it is intended to increase its range.
The goal of SegWit is to increase the volume of blocks generated every 10 minutes from 1 MB to 4 MB, allowing for more transactions to be included than what has been possible so far. The result is to ensure a smooth transition of network transfers and at the same time reduce fees for their transmission.
SegWit is no news. Its activation took place in August last year, but it has not seen such a significant increase since then in some months of the year when, according to Transactionfee.info, it first increased in February and then in May SegWit to just about 50% of the whole network.
Historically, the largest block on the Bitcoin block has become block 540107 due to SegWit protocol and has reached the size of 2.3 MB with 10 minutes time of mining.
At The End
Successful implementation and uninterrupted SegWit use is a good sign and another strong boost. They are also proof that Bitcoin's development is on the good way. Bitcoin will become daily payment system and of course invest opportunity (today is good time for buy).
