Just when I thought I'd heard it all, I shake my head with this one

Apparently "donating" your computing power is now a "political donation".
I wonder how the SEC would consider my "computing power" if I was writing or publishing marketing materials?
I really can't see how or perhaps why such a rule makes any sense, let alone the issues of transparency & or enforcement.
What about off shore or other countries running the servers / mining rigs?
Does USA law cover the planet?
This seems like another 1900's "flagman in front of any motorised vehicle" ruling.
ie a reactive rather than a proactive ruling in regards to new technology.
Maybe some of the big names in the crypto world need to be on these rule making boards/committees, and then perhaps new rules would make more sense.
