The prices (in US$ terms) of cryptos have all been falling of late.
In the same way the when the stock market goes up or down, it is not a direct relationship to the company.
It is more about how investors feel about the company.
The resultant may be that the company takes on more staff or equipment ie expands, or the reverse.

This article is a great read, and has a very good point:
Why do we value crypto in terms of US$ ?

The number of people using steem for example doesn't go up or down as the values do.
In the end cryptos are just 1's & 0's, so where is the 'value'?
Surely it is in the functionality of a particular platform. the number of users, or the dependence of a particular market demand for that coin.
But in crypto terms across all platforms & flavours, are we not developing an alternative to the US$?

The articles suggestion is to perhaps relate all ALT coins to BTC.
But BTC is a first generation coin, and while it has market knowledge & acceptance as a "standard" it is still 1's & 0's.

Perhaps a better maybe more obvious choice might be to relate all coins to gold.
Gold has been the bench mark standard for 'currency' for 10,000 years or more.

Gold is relatively stable, and has been the basis of modern fiat currencies in the past.
Maybe we need to drop the US$ & any associations with it, use gold as the benchmark and perhaps crypto will become more 'mainstream'.

Time will tell
