I know it probably doesn't matter to many of you out there, but today is the 4th of July which holds a pretty significant meaning here in the US. To quote the great Bill Pullman as President Whitmore in the movie Independence Day, "Today we celebrate our Independence Day!".
I get the day off work, but I will likely be tooling around the house. I have to run over to my parents house and do some chores for them before I settle in to relax and enjoy the day. It sounds like it is going to be a hot one and none of our friends are having parties, so we might just relax at home in the A/C.
Given the fact that it is Independence Day, I thought it only right that I use that as a theme for this weeks #threetunetuesday sponsored by 
I know a lot of people out there and over here have a lot of disdain for the US. It seems we are the easy target these days. I guess that is what happens when you are the best. For real though, I am pretty proud of my country. I find it a great place to live and call home. It's natural beauty alone could fill a lifetime trying to see it all.
Sure, it isn't perfect, but I don't many places are. We all have our unique twists and turns that lead us down different paths on the same spinning ball in the middle of space.
I often see a lot of people ripping on America in some of the Discords I am in. With a crypto policy like we currently have, I can understand why, but to fixate solely on the things you don't agree with is foolish in my opinion. You are sheltering yourself and denying the privilege of seeing the full picture.
Anyway, here we go...
This one is pretty much a given right. I mean the only thing that would have been more obvious than this one is "God Bless the USA". The reality is, this song isn't really celebrating the US. It's pretty deep, talking about soldiers coming home from Vietnam and the hate and disdain they had to face.
They did this thing for their country (right or wrong) and people hated them for it. Many of them had no choice. Isn't that a slap in the face.
There are a lot of people these days who think that celebrities should keep their mouths shut and not share their personal beliefs on politics, religion, or any other sensitive subject.
Can you imagine what the 60's and 70's would have looked like if people felt that way? Half the music you listen to wouldn't exist. The same is true for rap music.
Better yet, what about punk music? Can't really have much Anarchy in the UK if artists should keep their opinions to themselves.
This one I threw in for a bit of a laugh. While the song itself isn't patriotic, the band is called America and that alone makes it worthy of this post. I actually am a pretty big fan of America. They have some great songs.
"Sister Golden Hair" is probably one of my favorites of their. It definitely ranks much higher than "Muskrat Love" on their list of all time greatest hits.
I could have shared "Horse With No Name", I mean what's more American that riding across the desert on a horse with no name right?
America is just that awesome sort of yacht rock music that you know I love if you have been following me at all.
It's good stuff and you definitely need to give it a listen. Even if you only do it on the 4th of July.
This last one was hard. I mean really really hard. There were so many directions I thought about going. Bon Jovi has a song called "American Reckoning" that came close to making the list at the behest of 
Perhaps I could go with "American Girls" by Counting Crows... They are one of my favorite bands after all. Better yet, who could forget the iconic National Anthem instrumental by Jimi Hendrix? Surely that should have made the list.
Ultimately, I decided to go with this classic by Merle Haggard. "Fighting Side of me" is a perfect accompaniment to the small rant I had earlier in this post.
I'm not saying we are perfect, I'm not saying we don't deserve to be called out a time or two, but I honestly think we get a bad rap. We are the country everyone loves to hate. Whether it is for a good reason or not.
Most of us are just trying to live our lives and provide for our families just like you. Maybe think of that next time before you jump into Discord channel and start bashing on any country, not just the US.
Countries are made up of people, just like you and me. They might have absolute morons in charge, but the people are just trying to live their lives.
All seriousness aside, I do have to throw in one small jab at my friends in the UK, since this day wouldn't be possible without them.
