I don't know about you, but many times when I am going through situations in my life, I am often reminded of a song lyric that pertains to said situation. In fact, if you could be inside my head for even a fraction of the day, I guarantee about 80% of your time in there would be spent on song lyrics.
It's a sickness I guess...
This morning, the song just happened to be "You Can't Always Get What You Want" by the Rolling Stones.
It was kicking around my head thanks to some frustration I was experiencing with a specific Play 2 Earn game.
I will get into the specifics in a little bit here, but what it really brought into focus is just how spoiled we are on Hive.
what it really brought into focus is just how spoiled we are on Hive.
While the concept of a fast, fee-less blockchain that just works might be a foreign concept to some people, it is the reality we live every day on Hive. You don't need to understand the inner workings of Delegated Proof of Stake to soon realize that Hive is a excellent piece of technology.
Nine Chronicles Game is a decentralized blockchain game that I have been playing for over a year now. I hesitate to bash on it too much due to the fact that my early involvement has been quite lucrative for me.
However, at present, I find the game virtually unplayable. The idea is, each person who plays the game runs a copy of the blockchain and all of those people sync up to each other to verify the blocks. Thus the decentralized nature of the game. The problem is, that interaction is unstable at best, mind numbingly horrible at the worst.
Currently the game is in an arena season for about five to seven days. I'd like to try and progress up the leaderboard, but after every battle I have to restart the game because it errors out or the blocks get out of sync.
I try to convince myself it isn't worth it, but then I look at the token price of ~$2.50 and I think if I get even 50 tokens from the arena season, that is kind of worth it.
Like I said, it really makes me appreciate the structure we enjoy on Hive. Having trusted witnesses who ensure the stability and validity of the blockchain is a huge plus. It means the difference between an end user experience to be proud of and whatever the heck is happening over at Nine Chronicles.
I don't think their idea is bad, I just think they need to implement it in a different way. Maybe people don't care about the user experience as much as I do? Likely they have never used Hive and don't realize how seamless a decentralized blockchain experience can be.

I've been hammering on this for over a year now, but the same thing can be said for the gas fees over on Ethereum. I swore off ETH quite some time ago due to the fees. Then Nine Chronicles comes along and wraps their in game token over on ETH. Suddenly I have all of this WNCG that I need to do something with and absolutely zero desire to interact with the Ethereum blockchain.
Why? Because it isn't Hive.
Why would I want to spend $90 USD plus to make any transaction over on ETH when I can do it for virtually free on Hive? It defies logic.
Looking back, I clearly should have sold the lot when the price of WNCG jumped up to $4.11 and moved it all over to Hive via the WLEO bridge. I didn't though and now I am stuck waiting for the price to go back up. I don't think I can even stake it for rewards, why would I want to at $100 per transaction to stake/unstake, and collect the rewards?
Often the holidays and new year is when we enter a time of reflection, we think about what has been and what is to come more intensely than we do at other points in the year. I encourage you to take some time this season to reflect on how good we have it here on Hive. If you have used other chains, you likely know it is true. If you haven't used other chains, I guarantee you have heard at lest one horror story that will make you glad you are on Hive.
Done reflecting yet?
How does that change your current strategy/view on Hive? How does it shape your strategy moving forward into the next year? Need more time to think about it? Be my guest. I will just be here enjoying the awesomeness that is Hive.
