Last Thursday my wife and I left on a trip up to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I have been struggling with my garden this year and I was hoping that something miraculous would happen while we were gone.
I gave the garden a good watering Wednesday evening before we left and then crossed my fingers. Sadly, when I got back on Monday and took these pictures not as much had happened as I was hoping.
This is probably my best looking zucchini plant. It is coming along fairly nicely, but there are still no buds on it. I really should have worked better to get all of my plants started earlier this year. My mother in law is already pulling zucchini off her plants and I don't even have buds. It is going to be a long summer...
My dahlias a pretty much shot, which sucks because I was counting on them to help bring in the bees to pollinate the buds on my veggies. Since none of my veggie plants have buds yet, I guess it was a waste of money to buy the dahlias. I will have to make a note of that...
My campari tomato plants are looking pretty good. I have a feeling they aren't anywhere near as big as they should be at this point in the year. They say that corn is supposed to be knee high by the fourth of July. If I even had corn in my garden I am sure it would only be an inch or so high.
To be fair, we have been in a bit of a drought in my neck of the woods. I am not using that as an excuse though. I have a hose and I know full well I was late to the party getting my stuff in the ground.
This is my second tomato plant. It isn't quite as big as the other one, but it is coming along okay. I expect that I will be able to pull maybe one batch of tomatoes out of my garden sometime around September. Right before I pull the whole thing out for the Winter!
We are supposed to get some pretty significant rain this weekend, so it will be interesting to see what that might do to the garden. Especially if we get some hot/humid days along with the rain.
This is another one of my weak looking zucchini plants. It is still better than the ones to follow, but I think that first one is going to be my biggest producer eventually. This picture really makes me realize how much I need to do some weeding in my garden. I think next year after I till the soil I am going to put down some landscape fabric. I hate weeding and this bed is just a hot mess with all of the grass invading it.

This is my second dahlia plant. It doesn't look very appealing to me, so I am guessing the bees are going to steer totally clear! I need to be smarter next year if I decide to plant a garden again.
I forget what these are now so I am not even going to try to guess the name. They are doing pretty well though. I wish I had bought about three or four more of these. Since they seem to be doing so well and holding their flowers so long I think they might have a good chance of bringing some bees in.
My jalapenos are looking pretty good and it might be time to transplant them to the hanging bag if I am still planning on doing that. The problem is as okay as my plants look, I was at my parents last week before we left on vacation and their pepper plants are about seven times the size of mine. I really screwed the pooch this year...
My last weak little zucchini plant... I am not even sure why I keep watering this one. I don't expect it to last too much longer.
Finally, a little closer view of that second dahlia plant. That last flower is already starting to turn and then after that I think I am going to have to pull them out. I actually don't know too much about them. I think they are annuals, but maybe they will come back. Do they flower more than once in a summer?

Sorry, I know this is probably one of the most depressing garden posts you have ever seen, but this is what I have to work with and I am doing my best. Fingers crossed the 3 inches of rain we are supposed to get this weekend doesn't wash everything away! Then again, it might be nice just to be put out of my misery!
