Besides being a big fan of music and the Hive blockchain, I am also a pretty big supporter of the WAX blockchain. Built specifically for NFTs and the NFT ecosystem, there have been a ton of projects dropping on WAX over the past couple of years.
Before the huge correction in the market I think there was something like one or two new drops happening per day. It was pretty frantic.
It got to the point that I had to start being selective about the projects that I bought into. I was throwing away money (albeit free money) on projects that are still languishing. Sure, I have some cool NFTs, but without an actual game or use-case for them, they are of little value.
Having played Rising Star Game on Hive for quite a while now, I am no stranger to NFT games that are based on a musical theme. They have been going strong for a couple of years now and they are still releasing new packs on a regular basis. There is a rather large community dedicated to the game.
When Music Mogul came across my radar, I was kind of skeptical at first. Like I said, WAX has a ton of projects every day and sadly with a few exceptions, not many of them are quality. On the flip side, Hive has far fewer NFT sets, but for the most part they all amount to something or have a use-case.
On top of that, I noticed that the packs were something like $75 a piece when they were launched. You had to pay in WAX which isn't really a problem for me, but $75 is still quite a bit for a single pack of NFTs, especially when the markets are acting like they have been lately. Again, I have some things in place that passively generate me WAX, but I still don't like parting with my tokens at these prices...
What really tipped the scales in favor of me jumping in was the fact that this project was offered by WAX directly. It wasn't some third party dev team or shady group that was most likely just looking for a money grab and never had any intention of creating a game.
I moved some of my WAX around and ended up purchasing three or four of the packs (I honestly can't remember now, but it's blockchain so I could look it up if I really wanted to). I opened two or three of them and then left the last one unopened. With 25 NFTs in each pack, you actually get quite a few assets.
Which is good because as you can see in the photo above the only thing you can do with the NFTs right now is burn them into upgraded NFTs. If you are aware of past WAX offerings like the TOPPS Baseball cards and Street Fighter, this interface will be very familiar to you.
I combined what assets I could and I ended up with about 54 total assets. According to Atomic Hub, those assets are worth about $250 which is a bit less than what I actually paid for them. Considering the fact that a game hasn't even been released yet, I don't feel too bad about that.
Beyond the crafting piece, there hasn't been a lot of information released about the actual game.
It's tough to say at this point if this game will be some direct competition for Rising Star. I think they have a long way to go to get caught up, but WAX has some pretty substantial backing and devs, so it isn't unbelievable to assume it will be.
Then again, it could be a totally different style game. Who knows. The good news is, if you have some money over on the WAX chain and you are bummed that you missed out on this, stuff is selling on the secondary market at a lower price than people originally paid.
Why you would rather take a loss than be patient and wait to see if the game becomes something is beyond me, but to each his own I guess. Plus it means opportunity for people like you (should you choose to invest).
Of course, do your own research!
