I was browsing through some of the Yahoo headlines the other day when there was one in particular that stood out to me.

It read:

The next big business in crypto is “staking”…

If you happen to follow the link and read the rest of the title, they go on to say something to the effect of “here’s how it will work”.

I’ll give you a moment to stop laughing, pick yourself off the floor and compose yourself after seeing that last part.

You good now? Of course the main focus of the article is talking about Ethereum and how they are moving to proof of stake. While I don’t disagree there will likely be a lot of potential (whenever it finally happens), don’t talk about it like they are suddenly doing something new or ground breaking.

I tried to leave a comment pointing out all the benefits of Hive, but I soon found that my comment had been rejected because it violated the community guidelines.

I am guessing it was the fact that I linked to the HIVE.io site and that is what kicked it out. I didn’t say anything profane or controversial, I just stated the facts.

In fact, I just got the email notice from Yahoo telling me that my comment had been rejected. Here is what I said:

HIVE is a fantastic proof of stake blockchain. You can earn like 3% just for staking HIVE. Move some of that into HIVE Backed Dollar (HBD) and stake it to earn 12%. Plus you can earn from blogging, commenting, and curating content too. HIVE is also home to the largest blockchain game in the market right now Splinterlands. Lot’s to love about HIVE. https://hive.io/

Give me a sec while I remove the hyperlink and try to post it again.

Ah, it would appear this time it let the comment go through. I don’t really know how many people will ever see this article, but if you happen to jump over there and you have a Yahoo account, feel free to leave your own comment on the post.

It’s important that people know there are alternatives to ETH.

One of the things I did find encouraging about the article came from “David Lawant, director of research at Bitwise Asset Management”.

He made this comment:

“For the industry as a whole, we expect staking to become a big business"

What’s that you say? The thing that I have already been doing religiously for the last four plus years is going to become big business? If that doesn’t deserve a big old “hell yeah”, I don’t know what does.

Of course, this is just one persons opinion and we all know what they say about opinions… If you don’t know what they say about opinions feel free to Google it. Just try to avoid any sites that have pictures, noone wants to see that.

The article goes on to imply that Coinbase is making a pretty substantial amount of money from staking in addition to their trading platform. Let’s think about that for a second. They are making a whole bunch of money, for holding your money. Hmmm. Doesn’t that kind of sound like some other institutuions we know and love?

Here’s hoping that one day HIVE will be big enough to earn a mention in articles like this. If they ever implement some of the changes that have been suggested for HBD, it could be happening sooner rather than later!
