We are now officially over a week into the PolyCub launch, it has been a crazy ride with starting APR's in the two trillion percent range. As is the case, they quickly started to fall and now we are settling in to the new normal of sub 1000% numbers.

I'm okay with that, it is pretty much inevitable. I can't imagine a project with interest rates in the thousands of percents could ever be sustainable.

Besides shuffling some stuff around and watching my numbers go up on PolyCub over the past week, I have also been spending a lot of time in the Leo Finance Discord.

In that time, it has become painfully obvious to me that many people are just not ready for DeFi. At this point it is too complex with too many moving parts and too many points of failure. Human failure that is.

In fact, if you go into the Leo Finance Discord on any given day lately, you will likely see three very specific types of issues:

Human Error - Khal has stated pretty clearly in the AMA's and on Discord that about 90% of the issues that people are having and come complaining into the Discord about are human error. AKA something they are doing or have done wrong on their end. Things like not having tokens staked where you think you do for the airdrop, not realizing there are two separate platforms (Cub/PolyCub), or not actually using the same address between the two.

Misunderstandings - These go part and parcel with Human Error. These are cases where the users logic or perception is flat out wrong, but they believe they are right so much that they just can't see it. edicted@edicted and I had a short conversation about this the other day as we were trying to help out a user in the chat.

This one is tough because it happens to all of us sometimes. I had my own misunderstanding incident a while ago when I was trying to understand where the satoshi value of tokens comes from. I was so firmly cemented in what I believed or understood that it took me a while to shift my thinking to finally understand the concept.

This can happen to people in DeFi too. No matter how many DeFi platforms you have invested in, or how much of a DeFi veteran you think you are, it is never a bad idea to just take a step back and go through the process step by step to see where the disconnect is.

Real Issues - Remember that 90% of issues being human error that we talked about above? Well, that means that there is 10% left that can actually be attributed to issues with the platform. That has been the case with PolyCub and the team is working really hard to get those fixed as quickly as possible.

As my first real dive into DeFi, I can say that Cub makes it pretty easy. PolyCub does add some new mechanics, but if you listened to the AMA's, set things up the way they recommended from the beginning and you aren't one of those 10% people above, then for the most part things have been really smooth.

In light of all of that, I would never claim to be an expert on DeFi. There are still many concepts that I don't understand, or I just don't care about. Most of my money that I have invested in DeFi is money that I earned from other crypto gains, so impermanent loss is not something that I think of too much. If I were investing funds that are more critical, then I might pay more attention to that sort of thing.

The fact is though, many people are investing those "critical" funds and realistically, they shouldn't be.

Spend a little bit of time in the Leo Discord lately. I would bet some Leo that you likely can't go half an hour without seeing someone pop into the general server and "cry" about how they can't get their airdrop. They usually embellish with plenty of sad or crying emojis (hence me using the term cry) and then often devolve into trash talking the platform.

Remember, in specific cases, these complaints are sometimes founded. However, the majority of the time the people are so confident they are right that they can't get out of their own way to get the problem fixed.

I think that's bad for the platform and it is bad for DeFi as a whole.

People these days love a sob story, and they love supporting people who feel they have been wronged.

That's just bad for DeFi.

I think we will get there one day, but right now, I think there are some aspects of DeFi that are just too complex for the average user. Things may need to change with DeFi as a whole to make some of these aspects easier for the general user.

Granted, there will always be those outliers who have an issue or just like to complain.

As a whole though, I just don't think DeFi is for everyone... Yet.
