I have a small number of friends who enjoy drinking whiskey as much as I do. Due to life being the way it is, we don't usually get the chance to get together that often and imbibe together.
In the case of my friend David, it usually only happens in the summer when we are camping together. We often bring a new bottle for the other to try and it gives us a chance to share some of our favorites.
In the winter it becomes harder to get together due to the weather, family responsibilities, and as I alluded to earlier, "life" in general.
I was browsing my collection the other day and I was a little sad that I didn't have someone to share it with since 
That's when an idea hit me.
I knew I had seen people with small sampler vials of whiskey in several Reddit posts, so I got searching on Amazon for the perfect thing.
That's when I found these little two ounce vials on Amazon for just about a dollar a piece. It was a pack of 12 and the total price was right around $12 USD.
As you can see here they are pretty decent quality glass vials. They come with small black caps that have a plastic seal on the inside so they close fairly airtight.
My thinking was I would take six of the vials and I would pick six of the whiskeys/bourbons that I think my friend would really like but hasn't had a chance to yet.
The biggest issue was getting the whiskey out of the big bottles and into the smaller ones. I know one of the vial sets I saw on Amazon came with a small funnel, but apparently I didn't pick that one because there was no funnel to be found in my box.
Due to the size of the vials, space was at a premium, so I decided to keep it simple and just write the name of the whiskey and the proof on the small labels that my wife gave me.
This was the first of three Wild Turkey offerings that I poured for my friend. I will be honest and admit that I spilled some whiskey in the transfer process. It was quite hard trying to find the right amount.
You will see that in a second. There is one bottle where he got significantly less than the other bottle simply due to my difficulty with measuring.
The second offering was the Bulleit Barrel Select that I just wrote a post about a short time ago. It wasn't my favorite, so I was more than happy to share this one out with someone!
My friend has been wanting to try Eagle Rare for quite some time now. It is pretty hard to get your hands on it, so this is another one that I was more than happy to share a little bit with him. This is also one of the vials that my pour was a bit off on. I would have liked to have filled it fuller for him.
Another Wild Turkey offering. This one is not a barrel proof like the other two. It was a bit more expensive bottle, but has a really smooth feel for a 101 proof whiskey. I highly recommend it if you get the chance to try some.
This is another Wild Turkey offering. It is the other barrel proof offering that I gave to my friend. I would consider it the sister to the other Wild Turkey Rare Breed, but this one is a Rye instead of a straight bourbon.
I know my friend already tried this one and he really loved it.
Finally, I poured my friend this George Remus that I also wrote a post about a short time ago. This is another one that wasn't one of my favorites so I didn't feel too bad about letting it go to him.
Isn't funny that the majority of stuff I shared was either because I really loved it or I didn't care for it. Pallets are really subjective so things that don't taste great to me, could be his absolute favorite. You just never know.
Bourbons and whiskeys are so complex that any of the various notes could appeal to a variety of tasters.
I was really excited to share this gift with my friend and I think he was just as excited to receive it. Part of me felt it could be viewed as "cheap" due to the fact that I was basically giving away something I bought for myself.
I could have easily bought him a $50 bottle of something really nice, but I think all of us here on Hive can appreciate something that was individually curated for the enjoyment of someone else.
