Is it just me or are you seeing more stories about cryptocurrency in your news feeds too? It used to be there was maybe one story among the twenty or thirty that show up on my feed. Now I would say that more than half of the stories are about crypto.
To be fair, I credit some of that to the fact that Google AI is learning what I am interested in and showing me more of it. I don't think that should take away from that fact that crypto is becoming more prevalent.
At least two to three times per day, there is a story that touts "these seven (swap this out for some random number) altcoins are set to take off higher than BTC". I am sure you have all seen stories like that.
It seems like coins like ALGO, SOLANA, LINK, AVALANCHE and several others are always in those lists. I guess the fact that everyone kind of seems to be on the same page is something to take note of. I do hold some ALGO and it has been a really great passive earner for me. I have high hopes for that token.
This post isn't about ALGO though.
Instead, I am going to briefly touch on four different altcoins that I have been keeping my eye on lately.
KOIN
We have been talking about KOIN off and on in the Leo Discord over the past couple of days. Mostly due to the fact that it is suddenly taking off price-wise. It is a project that was started by the former Steemit developers and as much as we love Hive, I think many of us had high hopes for it.
They started the initial launch of the token with a CPU mining application. There was some controversy with that due to people supposedly hacking the miner and using GPU's to mine. At one point the group was talking about wiping the slate clean and starting over. That is about the time I stopped mining, but not before I had about 2000 of the tokens.
The mining was taking place on the ETH network, so even back then, the gas fees made it relatively difficult to claim your mined tokens unless you had a decent ETH stack.
As I mentioned, the price has taken a significant jump lately. I am not sure if the team is close to a product or if it is just part of this crazy bull run, but the token that used to be $.01 about a year ago is suddenly over the $1 mark with an ATH of around $1.60.
I'm likely not buying more of this token, but I am for sure holding onto the ones I have to see what happens with it.
UOS
I honestly don't know a ton about UOS. I bought it on the recommendation of @lovejoy. It is some kind of ETH gaming service token. I honestly kind of forgot about it, but then I was scrolling through my CoinGecko feed and I noticed that it is currently up around the $1.18 mark. I am pretty sure I bought mine sub $.50 and if you were lucky enough to get in about a year ago it was all the way down around the $.10 mark.
I am not suggesting this is one I would buy more of either, but it is one I will be keeping my eye on. I just don't know enough about it to go all in. It's funny to think that at over $1.00 I think it is too expensive to buy more of. For all I know this could pull a BNB and then wouldn't I feel silly thinking $1 is too expensive?
I made that mistake before when I thought $15 for BNB was too expensive. I guess I never learn...
CHEX
I make no secret of the fact that I have a number of holdings on the EOS chain. Despite the haters and the hiccups they had early on, I think it is still a good blockchain and they have a lot of room ahead of them to run.
I was part of the genesis launch and I will admit I expected there to be more happening over there at this point in time given the amount of money they had raised. With Eden, hopefully that will change.
Chintai was one of the early dapps that was available on EOS. It allowed you to lease or borrow EOS. I think this could have been really great if the dapps had popped up all over like they expected, but that didn't happen.
In the meantime, Chintai has been reworking their product and are getting ready to launch a new product that uses the CHEX token. EOS in general is also working on a decentralized exchange called Bullish that I think has the potential to be big. I think these two things combined should make CHEX a very desirable token.
It has been bouncing around the $.02 to $.03 range for quite some time now. At that price I have picked up a fairly decent stack of this and I am just waiting to see what happens with it.
BOID
Finally, if you know me, you know that BOID is very near and dear to my heart. It is the first token that I ever owned a quantity in the seven figures. In fact you can too if you want to, the price is a right around the $.0005 mark and that is high compared to where it has been most of its life.
This is another token from over on the EOS side of things though they have recently branched out to TELOS and at least one other chain I think.
It started simply as a way to connect your computer to the IBM World Community Grid and earn some tokens while contributing your computers processing power to scientific projects. Having just been through a battle with cancer, I was more than happy to help map cancer markers in hopes of helping to find a cure one day.
Anyway, more recently, the team at BOID has been working on an NFT game as well as some other DAC type stuff that I think could finally be the thing that pushes their token into the $.01 or higher range.
This clearly isn't financial advice, but if you have an EOS account and you had zero qualms about throwing money at DOGE or SHIBA, this token has a far better use case and actual development in the works to bring even more uses to the token. It's a small team, so development has been slow, but they have a vision, and I believe they are close to achieving it.
I also think this token could benefit from the Bullish platform when it launches. A lot of these secondary EOS tokens that have just been sitting stagnant could see small pumps when the platform finally launches. Similar to how Hive-Engine was in the early days.
Opportunities are there if you are willing to take a chance on them.
Of course, do your own research, I have included links to all of the tokens above. You should also never invest more than you are willing to lose.
