I tend to get caught up in making small goals for myself that I do on a daily basis for long stretches of time. Last year, 241 days ago, to be exact, I started using DuoLingo to study French and have done so for at least ten minutes a day ever since. Around the third week of January, I decided to start doing at least 100 push-ups a day, and I haven’t missed a day yet. Most recently, I have started writing one haiku a day. It’s a completely arbitrary decision, but my goal is to continue this habit for a full year.
I have already posted these haiku on Threads, but moving forward, I am plan to collect them in groups of seven and share them here. You can find my first 14 haiku posted here.
Your thoughts, impressions, and criticisms are all welcome in the comments below.

Sitting on the loo
in the Louvre Museum.
No pyramids here.

Everyone looked up
eager for it to begin,
but you looked at me.

Will we open our eyes
and find after we’ve died
the light of a new dawn?

The hair on the wall
of my shower was not there
the day before.

I will write today.
For tomorrow I may not.
It is hard to say.

Riding in the rain
to the other side of town,
I passed an open door.

I heard birds chirping
the day I stopped trying
to write poetry.
For anyone who is interested in writing a poem a day. I encourage you to do so and to share your poems on Threads by using the #bcpoets and #apoemaday hashtags. I hope to find some more company there soon.
