Steem Monsters (D-Game Review)
What is Steem Monsters:
A first of its kind, Steem Monsters is a based off of the steam API and features a blockchain based system. It shares some similarities with other widely known card games, such as Magic: The Gathering with a more crypto-like spin to it. Your actions in this game involve the Steem blockchain, which revolutionizes the Decentralized Autonomous Organization Games genre (otherwise known as DGames) in its current ever growing state. This card game, in terms of gameplay, is very similar to most modern competitive games, featuring tournaments, leaderboards with large season rewards, ranks, friendly battles, an RNG based loot system in the form of card packs, and even a market where players can buy and sell cards, which can easily promote a growing community in the future.
The Gameplay:
Getting down to the gameplay, each player is given a certain amount of mana to use along with a certain rule. From there, a wide variety of summoners are available to choose from, which includes familiar elements like water, fire, life, death, earth, and dragon. The element you choose determines the kind of monsters you can use.
Example: If you pick an earth summoner, you are limited to using only that kind of element, which applies to all of the other elements except for dragon.
When using a dragon card, you are allowed to choose an additional element of your choice. Neutral cards are the only exception of this rule, which can be used on any summoner. Once each player has their team ready, the match begins with an automated turn-based battle system with changing rules and mana limitations each match to ensure each game is different from one another.
Even though this sounds like it would get very repetitive, due to the changing rules and mana maxes every match the games are always different and entertaining.
Gameplay Score 7.5/10
The Graphics:
While being similar to other widely known card games, steem monsters art has its own cartoony, cute style. Which makes for enjoyable eye gameplay, without any over the top graphics or on the other side low quality, makes for a good style for a game like this.
Graphics Score 7/10
How does Crypto play a role in Steem Monsters:
When the creators of Steem Monsters, Aggroed and Yabapmatt, were designing steem monsters they made it so unlike all other card games it’s completely reliant off of crypto. This makes for an interesting concept allowing you to buy/sell cards and card packs for steem. Although this is a good idea, a downside to it is the transfer of cash to crypto becomes complicated due to direct transactions to steem not being possible. Despite these downsides, it’s still a good and fresh idea to the gaming industry. Which will be used in some future games that are following SM’s path.
Future of Steem Monsters:
Currently the future of Steem Monsters looks unknown, but one thing is for sure it isn’t going away. With the tourney system coming this month and new cards being added by the day. Even opportunities to make lots of money by opening packs and participating in tourneys. All in all shows that dgames will revolutize the video game world and give new opportunities to all types of gamers.
Personally speaking, I think Steem Monsters is something new and interesting and is well worth my time. So, take a sip of coffee and try out steem monsters, and experience it for yourself what do you have to lose
Overall Review 80/100
