For a couple months now, I've been blank about anything to write and less enthusiastic to to scribble words on my jotter or on the note app on my phone. Truth nevertheless is to get excited about writing on the weekend prompt especially the first that grabbed my attention as it felt so surreal about my experience especially after sharing the experience a week ago in a different community and I must confess I'm glad that my hands are moving on the touchpad.
It's always a time we yearn about when in highschool which is the time we finally write West Africa Examination Council WAEC (an exam in West Africa in conclusion highschool). High school was really fun and dreary for me based on who I am (a boring guy - don't act like others), so I just wanted to conclude and be done after six years of schooling and finally we were done around August.
Finally I was happy but another reality set in which was to find a job instead of staying at home and always asking for cash from my parents and siblings not that it's wrong but it's not exciting as the amount you demand is not always given so a job would suffice.
It didn't take too long when I found a job advert to teach at a school, teaching was a job that could easily be gotten as a highschool graduate and I did pass the test that was given and called immediately to start the coming Monday and that really sounded exciting. I was asked how much I'd be paid and demanded for ₦10,000 which wasn't agreed on as the director gave reasons and I agree but what I wasn't prepared for was the amount of students that each class contained and the class I taught had 25 students. At the thought of the number of students in my class, I already felt cheated as each student paid over ₦20k (in my mind I was like who does that). I finally accepted my gate because I agreed till some weeks later I was made to teach a higher class than the last one with more students (oh no, I didn't see this coming). The new class had more than 30 students. Questions ran through my mind though I ignored them because I had committed myself to the job without thinking but I was being exploited and the worse part was that I was timid, gentle and not outspoken.
Later, a select few teachers including myself began organising extra lessons with interested pupils, the agreement we teachers had with the owner of the school was that he'd be given 30% on the amount paid by each students. It was satisfactory till two weeks later when students started paying then the owner of the school wanted more percentage (from 30% to 70% while teachers go from 70% to 30%). This was finally the height of the exploits totally and my boss the owner of the school is so authoritative and clearly gives two cents about anyone. I ended up teaching just that term and resigned, I surely can't work for one who doesn't care about me or he's words. I know this sounds funny because that's how the world works but there's a point that nonsense can be taken and I had to take the backseat to go out in still.
Thanks for visiting my blog till next time.
