"I serve the king", were the words that made David famous and brought him to the eye of the king.
David owns a shop somewhere in town where he bakes bread, cakes, and even bakes cookies. Whenever he did this, the aroma would bless the nostrils of passersby. And they would troop in, in their numbers requesting for a buy or for just a simple taste. But David would always reply them, saying, "I serve the king". And no matter how hard everyone tried, they just couldn't get David to give them any portion of his baked goods.
David continued with this habit until his story reached the king.
At the castle...
The king sat on his throne in a room that was so wide it could fit ten thousand people. His guards stood by his side, one on the left and one on the right side of him. They stood a little bit behind but we were close enough to attack any oncoming danger.
The king was relaxed on his throne as a royal maiden gave him a royal pedicure. He was lost in the moment until he was interrupted by the noisy squeaking of the huge castle door as it was pushed opened, revealing the royal messenger whom the king had sent on a royal errand.
"May you live long my king", he said, taking a knee and bowing his head to the earth.
"You may raise your head", the king replied in his thick and deep voice that echoed through the tiled walls and floor of the room. "Did you succeed on your mission?"
"My king, I'm sorry but it was a dead end. The seer saw nothing, and the mouthpiece of the gods, said nothing.... The gods are silent".
"Hmmmmm", the king replied In a voice that vibrated the earth underneath him.
"But your highness, words are spreading throughout the lands about a baker who bakes only to serve you. And for over six months he has been baking goods but has never sold any to anyone....he claims that he bakes, only for you."
"What do mean?.. is he one of the palace help?"
"No, your highness.."
"Then who is this person you speak off "
"Sire, he is only a baker who is rumored to be of divine blood".
"Hmmm...", the ground shook once again underneath the king's feet as he stroked his chin very tenderly. "Go ...and bring him to me, immediately ".
"Yes, your highness ", the messenger said, taking a bow before reclaiming his stance and then walking out of the castle.
Later that day...
The king sat in his throne room, but this time his beautiful wife, the queen, sat beside and engaged him in a discussion.
"Your highness", the queen said, in a feminine voice that spoke of her beauty, her elegance, and her love for the king.
"What is it my love, do you require a foot massage as well, or would you like to spend some time alone with me in my chambers?"
"My king, My Lord, and my love..even though my heart aches for all you have mentioned, it is still troubled constantly by our current predicament. The people are talking, the neighboring kingdoms are laughing and I can't help but fear that I am the true cause of our problems." The queen said.
"How do you mean?.."
But before the queen could reply to the king's question, she was interrupted by the squeaking noise from the castle door, which opened to reveal the messenger accompanied by a man dressed in a white gown, white apron, and white top hat, that screamed baker.
"Your highness, sorry for the intrusion. But I've come with that which you ordered".
The king stood from his throne and took a good long look at David. While David took off his top hand and took a knee in front of the king.
"Your highness, My king and My ruler...I only serve you."
The king was dumbfounded at the display of this stranger, so he smiled and replied to him,
"You may raise your head....now, What is your name"
"My name, is David Eze Ndi Eze, the son of the great seer Onukwube Eze Ndi Eze,who served your father and his ancestors before him."
"So, you are a seer?"
"Yes your highness, I am a seer and I know what you are about to ask because I have seen this moment happen in my visions...You seek an answer which has eluded you and your wife for years...and by the grace of the gods of the land, who have revealed all to me, I come bearing the answer to your problems." David said, before snapping his finger, signaling the huge door to the throne room to be opened.
Shortly after, a beautiful golden retriever dog emerged into the throne room holding a basket containing baked goods in its mouth.
It arrived at David's side and dropped the basket before letting out a cheerful bark.
"Your highness, these are for you and the queen", David said.
"And what exactly are these?"
"Your highness, I bake only for you. And following the instructions from the gods, I have baked loaves of bread, cakes, and cookies that will cure your problems to their very root."
The king stared heavily at David for what felt like a thousand years before finally uttering a word...
"And why should I trust you?"
"Because, I bake for only you, Your highness".
The king collected the gift and dismissed David.
A week later, the news began to spread around town, the Queen is pregnant!
Days later, the king sent for David, when David arrived at the palace, he thanked him for everything.. especially breaking the curse and gifting him a child and an heir to his throne.
David immediately became the king's right-hand man, a royal adviser, and the eyes and mouthpiece of the gods of the land.
