Dreams are weird, sometimes it's just straight-up crazy. Take a look at Joseph in the bible, who would have believed that he would become a man of power. Someone who would be respected by men great and small. Not even his brothers believed him when he told them about his dream of greatness. A dream about them bowing to him, which seemed far-fetched but, it is what it is.
While I was young I also struggled with the concept of dreams. I asked myself questions like, what do they mean? And why do they exist? And still came up short of answers.
Most times my dreams are just too crazy, so crazy that I choose to believe that an alternate version of myself dreamt it. In fact, I chose to believe that while I slept he roam the earth in his alternate universe doing things that I visualized as a dream. But then, science has not proven the existence of an alternate universe, only theorems have been formulated and none of them directly linked the idea of dreams being a link to our doppelganger. At least none that I know.
Then one night while I slept I had a weird dream, in this weird dream, I was in my primary school with the rest of my schoolmates and school had been dismissed. Those of us that use the school bus as a means of transportation from home to school and from school back home, slowly made our way into the bus, chatting as we did. And among the students on the bus was my crush. I don't clearly remember her face but I know she was beautiful, with a beautiful voice that serenaded my ear like the beautiful tunes of a mermaid.
While we were on the bus, I saw myself holding and licking a lollipop and discussing with my friends, and in the heat of our cheerful discussion the girl I had a crush on interrupted and asked me for my lollipop which I gave to her. After taking a lick of the lollipop she replied: " it's bitter, why is your mouth bitter". And then everybody began to laugh.
After I woke, I couldn't get the scene out of my head, I feared it might happen but then again it's just a dream, right?
Well about two weeks after my weird dream, I found myself in the weird scenario. The same seat position I was in, in my dream, which was close to the girl I had a crush on. My heart instantly began to beat rapidly. I was tensed until I realized I didn't have any lollipop with me. So, I quickly fell back at ease... until I heard the words"gimme your sweet lemme lick". I paused. And at that moment, a million thoughts ran through my mind, I raised my head to see if she was referring to me, but she wasn't. Instead, she was referring to another boy who I haven't seen in my life before then. I watched him give the lollipop and reply with the same words she used in my dreams," it's bitter, why is your mouth bitter". And then everybody began to laugh except for me, I was stunned, perplexed, and utterly mortified. What on earth just happened!?
Honestly, till today I have no answer, though scientists claim that dreaming is the brain's way of permanently storing what we have learned while we were awake, while we sleep. My question to this claim is, how can it be possible when I have at no point encountered such a scene before? I have seen no image of it either. It felt more like I was In somebody else's mind, watching the person be human and living a life that I would soon encounter. The only reason I haven't forgotten about this is that it's one of the weirdest that has ever happened to me. But if by chance there is an alternate version of myself out there, Henry says hello.
