Quite possibly me for the next 3 weeks.
Our bootcamp capstone project is going to be different than most other bootcamps, including the previous cohort's project. Typically a class will brainstorm project ideas and decide on which one or ones they want to tackle and present on the final day of class. Our class has actually been given the opportunity to work on a project created by members of the Las Vegas tech community. The full details of the project will be made available to us tomorrow. But from what I know it is a project that could have a tremendous social impact.
When I started my bootcamp, my dream was to create an app so awesome that people would be throwing bags of money at me for the opportunity to own it. And please don't tell me that's not how front-end developing works. But I am so excited to be able to contribute to a project that can have a positive impact. Not just in Vegas, but potentially in the world.
With that comes a lot of pressure too. I think it might have been a little easier to present a project that we decided on ourselves. I'm sure we would have chosen a challenging project and I have faith that we would have done a good job on it too. But we are now taking the brainchild of some of Las Vegas' top tech players and breathing life into it. It is the equivalent of wanting to do a volcano for your 3rd grade science project but instead Bill Nye gives you a project of his own for you to work on.
But I am speaking from the position of not even knowing the full details. So its crazy to be so nervous about it when I have no idea what "it" is. I've always been a fan of Tony Robbins and he likes to tell people to replace the word "scared" with "excited" and see how it changes the frame of your situation and your feelings. And I feel that it really does work...the power of words cannot be overstated. So I am definitely excited about this project. Maybe there is a word that combines the feelings of being excited and scared at the same time.
Exscareded.
Maybe I'll just stick with excited.
Oh yeah and that chat app I've been working on for the past week is done too.
