You know that feeling JUST before your workload starts to get out of control and projects start falling by the wayside? Assignments aren't getting turned in early...they are getting submitted just in time or maybe a little late. You aren't in full panic mode yet, but you are starting to get the feeling that shit is about to get seriously out of control. Especially once you start extrapolating out the timeline and how much more work is on the horizon, combined with how difficult the assignments are now and how much harder they will get.
I'm right at that stage now.
Tonight's homework was regex: regular expressions. I purposely studied regex a bit harder during the pre-work stage of the bootcamp because I already knew it was confusing. It looked like hieroglyphics and you could have convinced me it was basically some made up shit. So I was already a bit familiar with it going into today's class. I'd even busted out some during an assignment in week 2. Yes, I felt like a boss.
But today was a reality slap-in-the-face, pull-down-my-pants, kick-in-the-balls and spit on my dog moment. Regex is hard, yall! All kidding aside, it is definitely some difficult stuff. Our instructors made it clear that some developers go on to avoid ever having to use regex, and that a junior dev that wanted to make a name for him/herself (hint hint) could do so by being a regex ninja.
Sad thing is that I enjoy regex logic. Its like solving a puzzle. Use these operators in such a way as to make sense of all this data. This is the kind of thing I find fascinating and extremely useful. So I guess I hoped I'd have been better at tonight's homework. But as I said earlier, my face was slapped and my balls were indeed kicked. The evidence is that it is 1am and I just stopped doing my homework so I could get some sleep for tomorrow. Not even enough sleep to have a productive day tomorrow, but the cost of staying up even later is not worth getting one more question complete.
I am in fear of whatever nightmare assignment awaits me this weekend. My fears of spending too much money during the bootcamp are definitely unfounded. Unless my car breaks down, which could definitely happen in this Vegas summer. Otherwise I simply do not have any free time at all. Its all study, gym, sleep, repeat.
