They are one of the major symbols of the Mediterranean area, with long-lasting fame established long ago, in ancient times...
... and the most iconic trees in the rural landscape of this peninsula where I live.
But with recent product branding frenzy and intensive olive oil production in the last 10 years or so, in many places the trees are young, very non-impressive, looking all the same in the big, plantation-like cultivations.
But there are still some places where you can see the beautiful old ones ...
... places where every tree is shaped and curved in a uniquely twisted way ... the olives there look like great living sculptures...
... pretty varied sculptures.
