On the following photograph ... you can see two of my friends and neighbors ...
... Denis (known as @denisdenis here on HIVE) and Melita, in a classic, authentic small town conversation of the over - the - fence type.
Having a long experience in this kind of chat, I can tell you that when it comes to social interactions, some fences are more suitable than others. This one, ad example, isn't a bad one ...
... you can lean against it relatively comfortably and assume a cool pose like at the bar.
If the conversation turns into a debate, or an argument ... the fence becomes a metaphorical tennis net that gives a bit of elegance to the verbal match with words flying back and forth between the local champions.
I remember my Grandma being a great over - the - fence voice, back in the days when the street of this little seaside town weren't so empty. There were fewer inhabitants, fewer buildings in my neighborhood, only smaller family homes and even smaller, makeshift chicken homes in some yards, but you could encounter more people during the day and exchange more thoughts and gossips in a non - written way. With the human interactions gone virtual ... which I don't think it's a bad thing - just a different lifestyle, especially suited for these unexpected pandemic circumstances, I'm thinking about a creation of the OVER THE FENCE CHAT community here on HIVE :D Just thinking ... I mean, the thought came with this post, and probably will be forgotten with it.
Here you can see a monochrome shot, that along with the @denisdenis' vintage jacket, evokes a different era with the garden fence in a more prominent social role.
Here you can take a better look at my cat Sivka (The - Gray - One) which came to see what's going on in her yard, and enhanced the scene considerably. While writing this, and thinking about the over - the - fence phenomenon and my over - the - fence experiences ...
... I remembered that old Home Improvement sitcom, a show that I watched rarely & sporadically ... like everything else on the TV, that was my way to consume the TV stuff ... and I remembered having a few laughs from time to time ... but above all I remembered the cool and mysterious figure of the neighbor Wilson, visible only partially above the pretty high fence. For me this was the more unique and memorable thing in the show that I remember being pretty mediocre overall.
Since this is a rambling post, and a memory usually leads to another memory, now I remember the best thing in which I ever saw Tim Allen from the Home Improvement ...
... the GALAXY QUEST. A warm and kind of nostalgic comedy about space adventures and space opera TV phenomenon. Partially a spoof, partially a tribute to Star Trek universe, with a very cool plot. I will not go in details because I'm too lazy for that ... but I will say that essentially is about some lovely, naive aliens who by watching old terrestrial TV shows misunderstood that fiction for documentary and using their advanced technology built a fictional spaceship as a real, working thing ... then kidnapped the old, forgotten TV stars to be their saviors from another, very aggressive alien race. It's a surprisingly smart movie, it's never boring, jokes and allusions are very cool and in my opinion everything falls together perfectly for a very fun and charming experience. And it's not just a comedy, but it has a real, authentic feel of space adventure ... just like when you enjoy the many comedy elements of Indiana Jones, ad example, but you are still primarily immersed into the thrilling adventure.
And now, with Denis and Melita still talking over the good old fence ...
... it's time to end this post ... the photographs in my yard, with Denis, Melita, Sivka and the fence were taken by me ... and the images of the YouTube stuff on my PC screen are just screenshots.
