I had to go to the city last night, at eleven o'clock, to pick up a friend after the long afternoon shift on the fruits & vegetables stand inside the supermarket ... and since at half past eight that evening I already felt very sleepy, it was time to set the alarm clock on the PC to be sure that things won't get out of control once I enter the dreamland. So I set the screaming rooster on the virtual Cuckoo clock, let the old 50' movie about UFO's roll on YouTube, and hid myself under the blanket. The movie was EARTH VS THE FLYING SAUCERS from 1956, the strange colored version that I never saw before, and although I would like to provide a complete review now, I just can't, because I fell asleep some minutes later. I can tell you though, that the warm tones on that color copy of the black & white original looked nice to me, I liked the quiet dialogues and 50' clothes of the people in the movie, and above all - I liked the sound of the extraterrestrial vehicle ... it was so otherworldly soothing.
While the movie continued unfolding in the reality of my cozy room, I entered a strange supermarket behind the gate of sleep. The transparent building was filled with water, but the liquid didn't escape when the sliding door opened to let me in. It was an aquarium, but I was able to breathe. Flocks of shiny fishes were swimming all around the place while the shelves were filled with usual supermarket stuff. The workers were busy as usual, the costumers were pushing their carts seemingly unaware of the bubbles coming out of their mouths, and nobody seemed to care about the strange underwater conditions. I don't remember any narrative, just this one scene, going on like some screensaver in my mind.
The digital rooster did his job well and I woke up in time ... just when the old movie was ending. I put some clothes on, drank a cup of milk and left the house to drive into the dark. I did all this stuff regularly, didn't spill the milk or put the shoes on my head ... but ...
... but something just wasn't right. It was like I couldn't wake up properly ... and it's not that I was getting sleepy, I drove nice and safe, but I felt stuck in some strange parallel dimension where everything looks so usual but feels completely alien ... and the empty streets of my hometown didn't help to chase away that sensation.
Only when I arrived to the big store at the edge of the city, when I took my camera out of the bag and took these photographs you saw in the post, I started feeling normal again, like a regular dude in the right place at the right time, part of the right universe not some weird parallel one.
My friend soon came out of the store, and while talking and joking on the way home, I completely forgot this Twilight Zone incident. Once in my room again, I easily continued the interrupted sleep, but I don't remember those dreams ... if I had any.
Right now, in this fresh new morning, I remember only what I have written in this post ... that now has to end - THE END.
As always in these midnight ramblings on HIVE, the photographs are my work.
