Yarilo - a mythological character, whose name the ancient Slavs associated with the sun and fertility. According to the belief, on this day God took up a plow and a harrow, checking whether they are ready for spring field work. So did the peasants - they inspected the inventory. Accordingly, the work was added to the blacksmiths - the careful owners carried tools for repair.
On this day, venerated a bird-oatmeal, which was known as a messenger of fast heat. Women baked "oats" - oatmeal cookies. By the way, it is easy to prepare it now - the recipe is simple: 400 grams of oatmeal and wheat flour, 250 ml of warm milk, 300 g of sugar, 1 tablespoon of starch, 2 teaspoons of soda and 200 g of butter should be stirred, round "or" crescents "and bake.
The arrival of oatmeal on this day promised a rapid onset of heat. People said that on that day there was no snow from Yaril, and he was drowning it, sparing no effort. Also noted: "A lot of snow - a lot of bread; a lot of water - a lot of grass "; "It will catch the snow - bread will arrive; the water will pour out - the hay will be typed. " However, the weather was still changeable, as evidenced by this saying: "From above flows - from below frosts."
