24 January - Wednesday

International Eskimo Day! January 24 marked the "sweet" holiday - International Eskimo Day (International Eskimo Pie Day). The date for its establishment was chosen because on that day in 1922 the owner of the candy store in Onawa (Iowa, USA) Christian Nelson received a patent for an Eskimo. Eskimo is a creamy ice cream on a stick, covered with chocolate glaze. And although his history counts for several millennia (it is believed that Emperor Nero already allowed himself such a cold dessert in Ancient Rome), but it is considered to be the Birthday of the Eskim on January 24th. And, of course, the Eskimo is not just ice cream, it is a symbol of carefree summer days, the taste of childhood, the love of which many have preserved for life. Who and when "invented" the Eskimo, who invented to insert a stick into it, where did the name come from ... Few people know, and there are a lot of versions and disputes about these historical events. According to one of the most common, the author of this type of ice cream is a culinary confectioner Christian Nelson, who invented to cover with chocolate icing a briquet of cream ice cream. And he called it "Eskimo Pie" (Eskimo pie). This happened in 1919, and three years later he received a patent for this "invention." It must also be said that this first eskimo was without a wooden stick - its today's unchanging attribute, and it was acquired only in 1934. Although it is difficult to say what is primary - an eskimo or a stick. Some stick to the version that the primary stick is in ice cream. And they are based on the fact that a certain Frank Epperson, who somehow left a glass in the frost with a lemonade, where there was a stirring stick, after some time found an ice fruit cylinder with a frozen stick, which was very convenient to eat. So, in 1905 he began to prepare frozen lemonades on a stick. And then this idea was picked up by the producers of the Eskimo.

Fedoseev's Day
1848 The California "gold rush" began unorganized mass gold mining in California in 1848-1855 in the vicinity of the Sutter sawmill near the town of Koloma.
James V. Marshall, who worked for John Sutter, discovered pieces of gold in a water wheel on the American River. He took the find to Sutter, and together they carefully checked the metal, confirming the conjecture that it was gold. Sutter was very concerned and wanted this information to remain a secret, because he feared that his agricultural business would suffer in the event of a massive search for gold. Nevertheless, the news of the discovery of gold swiftly spread, and soon about 300 thousand people arrived in California from other US states and from abroad.
In just a few years, San Francisco grew from a small town to a large settlement, roads, schools and churches were built in California. A system of laws was created, and in 1850 California officially became the US state, which is now often called the "Golden State". The branch of agriculture grew sharply and developed.
1935 The first canned beer appeared on sale
