International Day of Planetariums
Day of Recollection
Day of blue elephants.

1878 A meeting of the French Academy held a demonstration of the phonograph Thomas Edison

International Planetarium Day (International Day of Planetaria) is celebrated annually on the second Sunday in March in many countries around the world. This holiday has European "roots", for the first time it was held in Italy in 1990 at the initiative of the Association of Italian Planetarians.
As you know, the primacy for creating an apparatus similar to the modern planetarium belongs to the German scientist - in 1925 in Jena at the Zeiss plant the first universal projection module "Planetarium" was designed and built.
Status International Planetarium Day acquired in 1994, when it was supported by the French "temples of astronomy." And in a year this holiday began to be celebrated in six more countries: Belgium, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Ukraine and Russia.
The purpose of this holiday is familiarity of the public with the activity of planetariums and the propagation of astronomical knowledge. And the venues, of course, are urban planetariums.
It should be noted that the celebration date falls on the second Sunday in March, close to the vernal equinox. And to their professional holiday many planetariums try to coincide with the premiere of new programs, organize meetings with interesting people and various contests and quizzes.
