In Russia they believed that on this day the dead mourn for their earthly life and wish to see their relatives. Therefore, it was customary to visit cemeteries - lament on graves and call out parents. As a rule, it was done by elderly women and old women in the morning dawn.
The mourners at the churchyard called their dead parents: "Get up, wake up, look at your little ones, look at us, orphans, from their houses, and make your word sweet!". It was believed that on this day the earth opens, and the souls of the deceased can fly out into the light of God. The dining table was therefore covered as best as possible, so that the ancestors could see that their children and grandchildren were well.
Before each case on this day, they prayed with the whole family. However, to work and so treated with sacred trembling. In the people on this day, remembered the saying of labor: "A loafer on the plowland - that the drone in the hive"; "You want bread with honey - take a shovel"; "On the shelves lie - do not eat bread."
This day was important for everyone involved in fishing: it was considered a great sin to fish on May 3. By the way, according to fish youngsters peasants also guessed: if fry spread quickly, then it is possible to sow earlier, and if they stay together for a long time, then it is worth waiting.
