I’m very excited to share this tutorial with you guis. I spent some time taking pictures of every component you’ll be working with and every action you’ll be performing in order to follow this tutorial’s steps and create your own gpu mining rig.
In this tutorial i am using The asrock h11 pro btc +it is actually the successor of the famous asrock h81 pro btc which is one of the best rated motherboards for mining. the best spec ofthis mobo is it can support up to 13 gpus rig instead of two 6-GPU ones.
This is convenient in many ways. and the onboard power on and reset buttons make this mobo a little bit more convenient to use in a mining rig. Since you won’t be using a PC case that having the power buttons to on the system.
I am using the Intel pentium G4400 LGA1151 processor it has already have a heatsink+fan and thermal paste included in the package.
note; The CPU chip has a tiny marker in one of its corners. Make sure that it aligns with the same kind of marker on the cpu port.
No matter if you’re using the stock cooler or a third-party one. First of all, we need to remove the stock thermal compound. Use a dry towel or soft paper; avoid using water or any other cleaning clothe, apply the new thermal grease/ paste. The thermal compound needs to be applied to center the CPU metallic surface.
Place the cooler on top of the processor and move it a little, so the paste can be evenly distributed between the surfaces. then the last part attach the cooler and then plug in the fan cable to the motherboard.

In this tutorial i am using a EVGA 850 watts psu, now we will need to plug the cables to the PSU. As you could notice, it has several ports, each of which serves for a different purpose. They come marked. i am using semi modular psu which the atx 24pin cable is attached to the psu or all cables except the 24-pin and 8-pin/EPS cables can be removed from the PSU. . We will be using five of these ports, which are:
24pin – ATX (MB for the motherboard)
The standard ATX power-supply–to–motherboard main connector is the Molex 39-29-9202 (or equivalent) 20-pin +4 ATX style connector
I am using the Western Digital’s Caviar Blue 1TB blue HDD My HDD has no SATA Data cable included in the package thank god that the asrock h110 pro btc has a 2 sata connectors included in the package, I’ve connected my HDDD to the motherboard SATA slot using the SATA Data cable.connect your storage or disk device such as your HDD, SSD, or DVD Drive. Connect the SATA data cables that were included with your motherboard. Connect one end to the hard drive or disk drive and the other end into the appropriate SATA slot on your motherboard. Consult the manual for additional instructions on which slot to use.
Then, I’ve connected the HDD to the PSU though the SATA Power cable. The SATA slot can be located in one of the corners of the mobo.
INSTALLING THE VIDEO CARD/GPU
In am using a ASUS GTX 1060 6gb GPU that has only 6 pin power cable. Connect the 6 or 8-Pin PCI power cable to your video card. Some video cards do not require additional power from the power supply. Some video cards will require two 6 or 8-Pin PCI power cables.
SETTING UP RISER FOR GPU
I am using a v006 riser the latest riser for now sould be the voo9 which has longer usb cable to be expected. When we are talking about GPU-based mining rigs for crypto currencies it is common for PCI-E extenders (or risers) to be used in order to be able to put more video cards on a single motherboard and use not only the available PCI Express x16 slots beacause theres only on or two 16 pin for gpu on the motherboard most of it has a PCI-E to USB 3.0 riser on boards.
The riser consist of a couple of components – main board with the video card slot, smaller PCI-E board for connecting to the motherboard, USB 3.0 cable and an optional power adapter (Molex to SATA Power, SATA Power to Molex, PCI-E Power to SATA Power or some other variation).
the package usually comes with some sort of a power adapter that usually converts whatever connector is on the PCB to SATA Power. Most psu have a lot of SATA Power connectors and not as many Molex or other power connectors. Still going for the extenders with the standard 4-pin Molex power cable is the best choice, even if you have to use the supplied Molex to SATA Power adapter.
That’s it, now that everything is set up please not that this is just a hardware set up, i will make a software set up right after these post.
Building mining rigs are computer nerd’s version of building a car. It is extremely satisfying and as we know rewarding. Make sure wherever you plan on running the mining rig to have enough air flow to prevent overheating. i currently running 6 gpu with Asus GTX 1060 DUAL OC
