I entered a dark house through an open window to loot for supplies. After going downstairs, I encountered deadly Shamblers, died to their toxins, but retried using land mines and shotgun blasts to eliminate them and two Stalkers. Later, I upgraded my rifle and learned about the Rattlers.
It was time to get inside the house through one of the open windows. I stepped through the frame and entered the upper level, hoping that we could cut through the building without running into major trouble.
I was not entirely sure whether this was going to be an easy cut through or a complete nightmare, but I had to press on. Without going downstairs right away, I stayed on the top floor to check around for any useful supplies that might have been left behind.
After looting what I could, I dropped down to the floor below. As soon as I landed, I realized I was definitely not alone. I noticed there was not one, but two shamblers were walking around the floor.
I really did not want to mess around with them because they constantly release dangerous toxins that quickly drain health. Still, I had explosives on me, so I decided to take the risk.
At first, I thought there was only one, but I quickly noticed a second Shambler lurking in the shadows, and there were likely even more nearby that I had not seen yet.
I threw an explosive directly at one of them, hoping it would kill the creature right away, but it managed to survive. I tossed a second explosive to finish the job while the other Shambler began closing in fast on my location.
I backed up quickly and pulled out my shotgun, landing a solid shot that took the charging monster down. However, the first Shambler caught me off guard while I was focused on the second one.
Cornered in a tight space with nowhere to run, I became trapped in its cloud of deadly toxins and died right there on the floor.
When I respawned back in that same room with the Shamblers, I promised myself I would not make the same mistake twice. I had learned from my previous errors, so I completely changed my approach.
This time, I set down two land mines to create a safe zone that would handle the bulk of the threat. I then attacked one of the Shamblers to draw them out.
As the second creature moved toward the noise, it walked straight into the trip zone, causing the land mines to blow up instantly. The explosion killed one of the monsters, while the other Shambler survived the initial blast and stumbled toward me.
I quickly finished it off with a couple of shotgun shells. The strategy worked remarkably well, keeping the toxic clouds far away from me.
Right after I finished off the massive creatures, a Stalker suddenly emerged from the darkness to attack me. I reacted instantly and shot him down before he could land a hit. A second Stalker immediately rushed in to avenge her fallen partner, but I was ready for her and shot her down as well.
With the room finally clear, Ellie mentioned how she hoped the infected had not killed Abby because she wanted the satisfaction of killing Abby herself. I agreed it was time to leave, but not before thoroughly checking every corner for extra items.
While reading through some abandoned letters, I learned that the group that took Abby went by the name Rattlers.
Shortly after, I found a workbench in the corner. I used the components I had gathered to upgrade the stability of my bolt-action rifle, making sure I was far better prepared for the dangerous journey ahead.
We'll check what happens next in another post.
