I explored the track area and logged a Rattler symbol in my journal. After squeezing through a heavy train door, I discovered a Rattler camp holding survivors. I sneaked inside, unchained an infected to create a distraction, and used silenced weapons and my shotgun to eliminate the hostiles inside.
Now that I was done taking care of all the hostiles in the immediate vicinity, I was free to explore the surrounding area and double back toward the tracks.
Trying to figure out where to head next, I scanned the environment and spotted a distinct logo painted on a nearby van, the exact same symbol I had seen earlier while playing as Abby. Ellie drew it in her journal.
Looking closely at the surrounding area, I realized this was the direct path leading toward the resort, a track I had completely overlooked when I checked this side earlier.
Pushing forward, I grabbed the heavy door of a rusted train compartment and pried it open to slide through. Ellie pulled the door shut tight behind us, officially sealing off the path back and signaling a clear point of no return.
Stepping out onto the other side of the tracks, I looked down to see a massive Rattler camp built directly around a tall, round building, the exact resort facility the captured Rattler had mentioned.
The place was teeming with guards, and they were actively processing captured survivors through the courtyard. Knowing Abby had to be inside that central building, I began searching for a path through their perimeter defenses.
I stumbled across a fresh corpse hidden off to the side, accompanied by a crumpled note. Reading the document revealed the dead woman was named McKenzie, who wrote that her husband had died while working the resort's tomato fields.
She had pledged to return with others to destroy the Rattlers, explaining why the guards had executed her and dumped her body here.
Moving past the corpse, I spotted an opening in the perimeter fence and slipped into the main yard. Ellie was still visibly struggling with her abdominal injury, clutching her side as we moved through the dirt.
Up ahead, a group of Rattlers were mocking a runner that they had tethered to a heavy post with a metal chain. Spotting an opportunity, I snuck up behind the post and unchained the runner, letting it loose into the yard.
The infected immediately went wild, lunging at the closest Rattler and creating complete chaos in the camp. While one guard watched the infected maul his squadmate, I raised my silenced submachine gun and dropped him with a burst of fire.
Another guard managed to kill the infected before turning his attention toward my position, suspicious of the commotion. I flanked around his cover and executed a quick stealth takedown from behind before he could raise the alarm.
Squeezing off another silenced shot, I dropped a guard who rounded the corner, but the action caught the attention of the remaining camp patrol.
Realizing my position was completely compromised and noise was no longer a concern, I swapped out my silenced submachine gun for the shotgun.
As a guard charged toward my cover, I pulled the trigger at point-blank range, blowing off his limbs and dropping him instantly in a bloody mess.
We'll check what happens next in another post.
