Woodruff is an evergreen plant and flowers between April and June - but mostly in May. The individual plants are usually only a few centimeters tall, but can grow up to half a meter high. Woodruff is best harvested before or during the first flowering period in May. The stems should not be used as they are very bitter. The reputation of the woodruff is not entirely untroubled, the aromatic substance coumarin is considered to be slightly toxic and is said to cause headaches
