Just stepping away from my desk at the office for a quick market rant. What an absolutely wild turnaround today!
If you were watching the charts yesterday, you probably saw semiconductors falling off a cliff. But man, Microsoft and Amazon just swooped in and completely saved the week.
S&P 500 closed up 1.67% and the Nasdaq jumped 2.77%. It feels like the whole market just let out a massive sigh of relief.
MSFT reported insane numbers—revenue hit $90 billion, and their Azure/AI data center segment alone brought in $37.3 billion.
The stock shot up 18% because they basically proved to Wall Street that throwing billions at AI infrastructure is actually translating into real cold, hard cash. Amazon didn't disappoint either with EPS at $3.92, $200.6 billion in total revenue, and AWS climbing 30% to hit $42.2 billion.
On the macro side, things are looking way less scary. The VIX finally dropped back down from 20 to around 18, and the DXY is hovering at 99.8. Oil cooled off too (Brent down to $86.82, WTI at $84).
Even with inflation being a thorn in our side, GDP is up, and personal income grew by 1.2%. The economy is still chugging along.
Honestly, as a guy who is just trying to grind out a few more years in the corporate world before hopefully retiring in my mid-50s, days like today are exactly why I refuse to day-trade.
If you're building a portfolio for the next 30 years, you have to stop staring at the daily price tags. Just focus on accumulating the number of shares. Let the algorithms fight over pennies while we DCA our way to freedom.
