This Tree - a poem

This Tree
This tree has lived

through much history.
Countless souls

have come and gone

while it has stood still.
Many battles and wars

have been fought

right beside it

that have long ceased

along with much

of their meaning.
Multitudes of animals

have hurried past it,

their footprints and tracks

having long disappeared.
And when it had become

part of a park,

many people had enjoyed

it's beauty and serenity.
Yet throughout this history

it's life has never been

affected quite directly,

but now the time has come,

a sad time for the tree I'm sure,

when it must become afraid,

of the cruelty of the axe,

the power of the saw.
