Miss June Autrey poisoned the congregation of the First Baptist Church of Bacon Level, Alabama with her potato salad at the church social on the grounds. The doctors at Wedowee General Hospital attributed the thirty-seven cases of explosive diarrhea and projectile vomiting on food poisoning from the mayonnaise used in the side-dish of choice at church events and picnics. It could not be determined if the mayonnaise in the recipe turned from sitting un-refrigerated in the sun as grace was said and everyone helped their plates, or if it was just a bad batch from the Blessed Redeemer Discount Grocery and Coupon Exchange.
The few who did not become ill said they avoided anything Miss June made with mayonnaise because she was known to leave opened jars on the kitchen table and eat a big spoonful several times a day for her health, licking the spoon clean before returning it back into the jar for whenever she was feeling poorly.
